How to Use the Entity Board

The Navigation Panel

The right-hand Navigation Panel is used to change between Card and List View, save and discard changes in Edit Mode, and apply filters.

Users can only edit the Entity Board page in List view. In Card View users will have to edit each Entity individually.

Users can discard their changes when in Edit Mode by clicking on Discard Changes. Users will then select whether they want to confirm and lose all their changes or go back into Edit Mode by clicking Cancel.

Using the Navigation Panel

Card and List View

You can view your entities in List or Card view.

  • List View will display Custom Attributes and the Network Map button beside each Entity. This view provides a way to quickly see and edit all Entities under each Entity Type. In Read Mode, Users can click onto an entity row to see an individual entity view. In this individual view, users can also edit Custom Attributes and save to return to read only mode.

  • Card View displays the Network Map and Information buttons and an overview of Entities, as users can select the specific Custom Attributes that will be visible on Entity cards. Administrators can select what will be pinned to a card while creating the Custom Attribute. This is further explained here.

Edit Mode

Administrators and Data Stewards can edit the Custom Attributes of Entities in three different ways. Data Readers can only access entities in Read Only Mode.

Edit Mode Steps
Edit mode in List View Users can edit the Entity Board page-by-page for their selected Entity Type.
Individually in Card View Click the Information button on a Card, you will be provided with a view of its Custom Attributes. At the bottom of this view there is an Edit button.
Individually in a Network Map Once a user has selected an Entity in a Network Map, a side panel will appear and they can select the Edit button.

Filters

When the right-hand navigation panel is open users can also filter their Entities through the use of their Custom Attributes. Fields you have entered as Custom Attributes will be available as filters.

Users can also search within each filter by clicking on the magnifier search icon under each filter.

Users can clear all applied filters and search boxes by clicking on the grey ‘x’ beside the ‘Filters’ heading.

Applying Filters

How to Find Entities

Users can find Entities by selecting its Entity Type from the drop-down list at the top right of the page. This will provide you with all the entities that are of that type, for example the Excel entity type will show me a list of all my Excel entities.

Only Term sets that have been tagged as Data Catalogue in the Metadata settings page under ‘Use this term set with these areas of the application’ will display in this drop-down menu. If a user changes between Entity Types while in Edit Mode, they will be asked to save before leaving the page.

Beside this drop-down list is the page navigation and amount of entities per page.

Users can search for Entities using the Search bar at the top of the page and this will display matching Entity Cards.

When you register and publish an asset in the BI Catalogue, it will appear in the Data Catalogue under the type and subtype you selected when registering the asset. This asset can not be edited in the Data Catalogue. If you delete an asset in the BI Catalogue it will also be deleted from the Data Catalogue.
