Catalogue Actions

In the Catalogue, you can view an embedded asset, view and edit information, tags and attributes, follow a link to view or edit an asset, and add discussions about an asset.

The actions available for an asset depend on the type of asset. For example, some assets may not require an edit option.

You can manage your assets with the following actions:

Manage asset Information

On this page, you can view basic information, properties, tags and attributes, all in their own sections.

You can edit basic information, but what can be edited is dependent on the asset’s entity type. For example, fields linked to a source system cannot be edited such as the entity type, author or group.

Click on Edit at the top-right of the information card to edit applicable basic information.

For example, you can edit the name of an asset, and provide a name that describes the asset if the previous name was not clear.

Manage Tags

While you can manage tags when editing an asset’s information, you can also manage tags on an asset while in the catalogue.

To add and remove tags on an asset in the catalogue, click on the Manage tags button under ‘Actions’ on the right.

You can manage tags for an asset here.

Tags that are added to a source system will apply to all assets from that source system. Tags added from a source system cannot be edited for individual assets, and can only be edited on the source system page.

Manage tags

(You can learn more about managing and merging tags here.)

In the tags field, start typing out the tag you would like to add and a dropdown will display any existing tags for the value you have typed in.

Type in the tag you want to add to this asset, then click on the tag in the dropdown.

Add a tag to this asset

Any added tags will then be displayed in the tags field.

Tags that have been newly added to the Portal will have a ‘New’ label at the top-right corner. If a tag exists in the Portal but has just been added to the asset, it will have a ‘Just Added’ label at the top-right corner of the tag.

Added tags are viewed just above

You can then view this tag in the catalogue or use this tag in the filters of the tag column of the catalogue.

Click on the filter button beside the Tags column title.

You may need to click on the More button to find it in the dropdown if you have multiple actions available for an asset.

View an Asset in the Portal

If you have set up embedding for a source system, you can view the embedded asset in the catalogue. Click on the asset name to view the embedded asset in the catalogue.

If it is an interactive asset, you can interact with the asset on this page.

The asset will have actions in the secondary left-hand menu.

You can:

Pin to Dashboard

While viewing an embedded asset in the catalogue, in the secondary left-hand menu, you have the option to pin the embedded asset to a dashboard. This will add a dashboard widget directly from an asset, instead of providing the required embed URL while adding an integration widget.

For example, you can pin a Microsoft Fabric Report to a dashboard while viewing the embedded report in the catalogue.

While viewing the embedded asset, click on Pin to Dashboard on the left.

Pin an asset to a dashboard

Then choose the dashboard you want to add it to as a widget.

You can choose one of your existing dashboards, an existing shared dashboard, or you can pin it to a new dashboard.

Choose a dashboard

To pin it to a new dashboard, choose whether you want it to be a shared dashboard or not by choosing either Create a New Dashboard or Create a New Shared Dashboard.

Provide a friendly name for the dashboard and Save.

If creating a shared dashboard, choose the dashboard audience.

The new dashboard will be created with this embedded asset as its widget.
