How to Edit a Rule

You can edit a rule by clicking on the edit button on the rule card or list row.

Edit an alert

All fields available when creating a rule can be edited here.

You can edit a particular section of a rule by selecting its tab on the left. All sections can be edited using the same method used to first create the section. Please follow the links below to learn more about each specific section.

General

  • ‘General’ includes its name, description and agent

Data Source

  • This will display whether a rule uses a data source or manually entered data and it cannot be edited.

Connection

  • This includes its source and output connection

  • Please note that support for renaming a column is not available in Azure Synapse Analytics GA as of February 2021. Thus renaming an existing custom field column may not work when using Azure Synapse Analytics as a target connection.

Query

  • The query that selects records from your data source

If you have made any changes to the query or added a new custom field, please note that the results will be recreated in this next execution and any metadata in custom fields will be dropped.

Key Columns

  • A unique identifier such as primary keys or a combination of columns to form a composite key

  • If you change your selected key column, existing data in this rule will be archived when the rule is next run.

    • You will be asked to confirm your changes to the key columns and you will also be notified that the existing tables of this rule will be archived. Archived tables will include the date it was archived in the table name. If you confirm these changes, the results will be archived when the rule is next run. The newly created tables will continue to be created using the project ID and rule ID as its name.

Assigned User Column

  • This will populate the ‘Assigned To’ field using your own source data.

Custom Fields

  • This will capture different types of feedback for your results

If you have made any changes to the query or added a new custom field, please note that the results will be recreated in this next execution and any metadata in custom fields will be dropped.

  • If you have edited a custom field that is used in a communication rule, please check the recipient column of the communication rule to ensure that your communication rule runs successfully.

  • Please note that support for renaming a column is not available in Azure Synapse Analytics GA as of February 2021. Thus renaming an existing custom field column may not work when using Azure Synapse Analytics as a target connection.

Record Status

  • This is where you can edit the status of records in your results

Communication Rules

  • This is where you can add conditions for communications and content that will be sent to users when a rule is run

If you have edited a custom field that is used in a communication rule, please check its recipient column to ensure that your communication rule runs successfully.

Save the Rule

Once you have modified your rule, please click on Save in the slide-out on the right.

Or you can choose to save and run this rule by clicking on Save & Execute.

Return to Projects

You can cancel your changes and return to your project at any time by clicking on Return to Projects in this side bar or on the page in the top right corner.

View Results

If you would like to view the results of this rule, without saving or running the rule, you can click on View Results in the slideout on the right.
